The Pre-Apprenticeship Program goal is to work with 20 youth from families at the Federal Poverty guideline, to create momentum for early encouragement towards self-sufficiency in literacy, independence, and in economics. The strategy for the 12-month project (2 six month sessions) is to introduce an option for after school activities aimed toward targeted youth that need positive intervention.
Program Objectives:
1.      Educate students in the neighborhood of Vine City and the University Choice Neighborhood boundaries to real life enrichment.
2.      Introduce the concept of business and financial literacy.
  1. Reading, Math, Science, history, Art physical education as aspects of strengthening self awareness.
  2. Development of team building – the ability to teach selflessness.  The offensive part of a team provides great opportunities to teach young participants to be unselfish as they work together to score and win.  This means that players on a team have to learn how to look out for each other, and support each other when they are vulnerable.

Milestones and Curriculum Outline for the project are as follows.
  • Educating on Alonzo F. Herndon with a discussion on his contributions to community and how they have benefited Atlanta, GA, as well as other individuals such as Martin Luther King Jr. and those instrumental in the civil rights movement, shall guide program mentorship and ways to solve economic problems, which surface within life .  However, our participants own relatives, were just as helpful as they have contributed and been a part of their own neighborhoods.

  • Introduction to business & financial literacy - science, reading and math, shall be used to motivate an interest for entrepreneurship endeavors.  Pre-apprenticeship training provides opportunities for individuals to explore career paths of interest.  The ASBTCI will work to have opportunities for our youth to explore their interests for well-being by way of entrepreneurship ideas and to implement a strategy, as they gain an interest in a skill with the use of science, math and reading.

  • Pre-apprenticeship involves guidance on soft skills such as communication, organization, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability and leadership.  Pre apprenticeship can give participants strategies to help learn the type of career path an individual could be interested. Implementing guidance on how to start a business will have modules to explore strengths and weaknesses and opportunities to pursue, to concentrate efforts to grow skills.  Incorporating activities to include reading, math, science, history, and art to explore aspects of strengthening self awareness, shall be helpful and fun.

§  Team building with the use of physical education, can inspire self discipline, improve peer relationships, provide stress relief, teaches goal setting and helps participants achieve better grades.
Curriculum includes:
  • Mentorship
  • Planning and Time Management
  • Business Finance Terminology
  • Physical Education
  • Science through reading and math
  • History and ancestry with art therapy & meditation
